What is Waxer canvas?
Waxer Canvas is a dyed cotton canvas naturally waterproofed using Beeswax
What is so unique about waxed canvas?
Wax is mixed in with the woven fibers to create a waterproof barrier ideal for jackets and bags. The wax repels water, as it beads up to sit on the fabric's surface.
Waxed canvas cleaning tips:
Shake or brush off dirt, sand or any other abrasive material. For small spots, use cold water and mild soap, and a sponge or brush. With a little soap, gently massage the spotted surface. Rinse with a sponge and cold water. Let the product air dry.
Important notes:
Fabric cracks, scratches, wrinkles and creases are a natural part of this fabric’s character as it ages and patinas.
Fabric wax coating can be renewed and reapplied using commercially available products like Otterwax.
Sewing Tips:
1. Use heavy needles (Jeans size 16 or 18)
2. Use top stitching thread and a longer stitch. Or, if you are sewing on a BERNINA, use the triple stitch.
3. Use clips (clover clips) instead of pins when possible.
4. Use a non-skid presser foot or a roller foot. You can experiment with tissue (wrapping paper type) on the bottom side if you are concerned about wax residue building up on your machine.
5. Waxed canvas creases when folded. These creases can be removed by ironing. Use a press cloth though.
6. Thoroughly clean your sewing machine after sewing with waxed canvas.
